When holidays approach it is important to always look for improvements to your listings to increase traffic and sales.
Step 1: Make sure your items are in the correct categories.
The first thing to check when you are preparing for the holidays is that your items are in the right categories. You want customers to be able to find your items when they are searching for similar items. Last year for Halloween, we created the brand new Seasonal Halloween shop. This increased Halloween sales by 163% in key categories.
Top level category for Halloween Costumes:
Fashion >> Costumes, Reenactment, Theater (61,257)
Here you have the option to choose from Accessories, Costumes, Other, Reenactment and Theater. Most Halloween items will fall under Accessories or Costumes. In each category you can choose the most appropriate subcategory. Items in these costume categories are more likely to get views and sales than items placed in other categories.
How to Set Categories in Bulk via the Batch Editor
Step 2: Update your shipping settings
In today's world, many customers are used to the 2-day shipping some companies can provide. To avoid a poor customer experience, it is important to be clear how long it will take to ship the item, and how long shipping will take. Bonanza uses your shipping settings to give the customer an estimated arrival date.
Make sure to include any options to expedite shipping.
Some sellers choose to add an "Order By" date in the description for holidays. You can do this by using the batch editor and adding text to the beginning of each item.

Step 3: Update your titles with appropriate keywords
Having a good listing title is crucial in optimizing for searches on any advertising channel. When preparing for a holiday it is important to update the titles with the necessary information; such as keywords that customers are likely to search. For example:
- Women's Halloween Costume 2018
- Men's Halloween Costume 2018
- Kids Halloween Outfit
Make sure that the keywords are relevant to the item. It can also help to include these same keywords in your description along with any other relevant keywords that may not have fit in your title.

Step 4: Update Photos
Product photos are one of the most important aspects of converting a visitor into a buyer. There are many different types of product photos that can sell. Here are a few examples of Halloween products with excellent images:
Item on a mannequin:
This type of photo works well for both used and new items. It shows the full use of the product without the distraction of seeing another person wearing the item. Photos like look great with a colored or white background.
Item on a person with a white background:
This type of photo is often used to show a new product but is just as effective for used items.
Live product photos:
Live product photos are the best for sharing on Social Media. They enable the customer to see what the product looks like in action.
