When you are a seller adding a new item to your booth for sale, you have the option to specify the portion of the item’s total cost that is going toward shipping. Specifying the shipping for your item is not completely necessary; however, if you do not specify either a flat rate or calculated by a shipping provider, the shipping will show as “No shipping” or “See item description." Then, when a buyer tries to purchase the item, it will come through as an offer and you will have to approve it, which creates more work for you and more waiting time for the buyer.
There are two reasons why you may want to specify the portion of your item’s price that is going toward shipping:
- To better explain how you arrived at the order's total cost. If the price of your item plus shipping equals $20, and $10 of that will go toward shipping, you may wish to specify exact shipping costs so the buyer better understands why the order’s cost is $20 even though the item itself only costs $10. Shipping costs may also help the buyer better understand why you cannot offer the item at a lower price.
- When the FVF for your sale is determined, shipping is considered in assessing fees. Currently, up to $10 of shipping can be deducted from your total sale value when Bonanza determines the final value fees. If, for example, you had no shipping specified and approved the buyer’s purchase without adding shipping costs, the order’s total would be registered as shipping for $0, or free shipping, which would give you no shipping discount. Specifying your shipping cost for the item helps us factor in the correct shipping amount.
If you’re using calculated shipping for your item, be sure to specify which shipping service you’re going to use. If you don’t, Bonanza will automatically select the lowest cost service. This means the buyer may not be charged the correct shipping amount, requiring you to pay the additional amount out-of-pocket. On the new item form, after you select the “Calculated shipping” tab, you’ll be prompted to enter the size and weight of your package. Then the shipping services available for that package type will display below for you to choose from.
My Item Ships Internationally. How Can I Specify The Accurate Length Of Time Shipping Will Take?
Great question! Depending on what you've decided to do (either free or flat rate shipping), click the drop-down menu under "Shipping method" to select the accurate timeframe. International services will be shown at the bottom of the list. Additionally, when creating a shipping profile in your "Shipping & Returns" settings, the same drop-down with the International options will be available.
After you save the changes, the shipping information and estimated arrival date will show on the listing page.
