Stamps.com Package Insurance via PIP
When you buy shipping services, you also can purchase insurance through Stamps.com, discounted from USPS rates for coverage under the Parcel Insurance Plan (PIP). For details, see Stamps.com Package Insurance.
For Express Mail, USPS automatically provides $100 of insurance at no additional charge. If you buy additional insurance from Stamps.com, $100 will be subtracted from your total insurance amount. Your charge will reflect the deduction.
We recommend typing the Insurance ID into the "Seller memo" section on the order detail page so you will be able to easily find it if you need to file a claim. The Insurance ID appears at the bottom of both the sample shipping label and the actual shipping label. If you don't see an Insurance ID, you can use the Shipping ID instead, which appears under the barcode on both the sample shipping label and the actual shipping label.
Filing a claim
If a package is damaged, you can file a claim as soon as the buyer informs you of the damage. Download the claim form here.
If a package is lost, you must wait at least 30 days before filing a claim.
To file a PIP claim, read the PIP End User License Agreement and file a PIP claim form (PDF).
To file a claim with USPS for the first $100 of Express Mail insurance, follow the insurance claim instructions.
Claim processing time depends on how quickly you provide all the requested information. Stamps.com processes most claims within 5 business days.
