Introduction to the Amazon Importer
The Amazon importer is your friend in the importing business. It will grab all of your active listings from Amazon and copy them into your Bonanza booth, with as much detail as it can gather (title, description, price, shipping information, main picture, and category are all usually grabbed, with some exceptions). Importing items from Amazon is free and usually is completed within a few hours, though sometimes can take as long as 24-48 hours, depending on how many items are being imported and how many imports are in the queue.
Where can I find the Amazon Importer
You can access the Amazon import page by hovering your mouse cursor over the "Selling" link (upper left side of each page, just above the Bonanza logo) and selecting the "Import from Amazon" link from the drop down menu. You can also find the same link on your "Selling > Add or edit items" page.
This page has detailed instructions on how to connect your Amazon account for import.
What kinds of listings does the Amazon Importer import?
The Amazon importer can import standard Amazon listings with a quantity of greater than 0 which have been fully indexed on Amazon. Instructions for importing Fulfill by Amazon items can be found in the "How do I import Fulfill by Amazon (FBA) items?" section below. You can read more about information that won't import in the Amazon importer limitations section.
How do I import Fulfill by Amazon (FBA) items?
- Visit your "Selling > Import from Amazon" page and scroll down to the "Amazon import settings" section under Amazon Accounts
- Click the link to "Show more import options"
- Check the box to "Import Fulfillment by Amazon listings"
- Click the green button to "Import items"
If you have already initiated an import without selecting your preferred import options, you must click the button to "Cancel your Automatic Inventory Synchronizing" before you can edit your import settings.
When an FBA item sells on Bonanza, you will be responsible for notifying Amazon to fulfill the order (this does not happen automatically).
What doesn't the Amazon importer import? What are the current limitations?
There are a couple of known areas where the Amazon importer is currently limited.
- Nested item variations. Amazon does not provide Bonanza with data which allows variations to be nested under one main listing. Item variations will be imported to Bonanza as individual listings.
- Listings posted only on international Amazon sites. Listings must be active on Amazon.com (US version of the site) in order to use the importer function. If your items are posted on an international Amazon site (AU, UK, etc), you may wish to consider importing to Bonanza using a CSV file.
- Inactive, blocked or out-of-stock listings. Listings must be active and have a quantity greater than 0 to be copied to Bonanza using the importer. Listings which are "Blocked unless FBA" will not be imported to Bonanza.
- Listings which have not yet been fully indexed on Amazon. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours for a newly listed item to be fully indexed on Amazon. The importer cannot grab items and copy them to your Bonanza booth until the listings have been indexed on Amazon. If your booth is set up to automatically sync, the item will be copied to your booth during the following sync once your item has been fully indexed on Amazon.
- Amazon Prime shipping costs. Items which are eligible for Amazon Prime will import to Bonanza with free shipping. You can easily add shipping to your items after they have imported to Bonanza via the batch editor.
- Advanced HTML descriptions can be abbreviated or dropped. Amazon and Bonanza have somewhat different rules for what HTML is okay and what HTML isn't. In some cases, HTML will be modified when the item is saved on Bonanza. Very complex HTML may be ignored altogether when importing items. We attempt to train the Amazon importer about these new formats on a case-by-case basis, so if this happens to you, you can contact support@bonanza.com and we will review the formatting of your listings as time allows.
- Listing Titles longer than 80 characters will be truncated. Bonanza has an 80 character limit for listing titles, to ensure your listings are optimized for advertising partners such as Google Shopping. Titles on Amazon listings which exceed 80 characters will be automatically truncated upon import to meet Bonanza's 80 character limit.
What happens if I import my items multiple times?
By default, subsequent item imports will only pay attention to items that were added to your Amazon account since the last Amazon import or items that had a price change on Amazon.
If you're making changes to your listings on Amazon after you've already imported them to Bonanza and want those changes to show on your Bonanza listings, then you'll want to indicate that the importer should override existing items.
- Scroll down to the Amazon Import Settings and click the link to "Show more import options"
- Select the option to "Revise previously imported items" and click the green button to import items
- This option may add significant time to your import
- Any edits you made to your previously imported listings on Bonanza will be lost; use this option with caution!
- Your listings will continue to be revised during each subsequent sync until you deselect this option
Can I select the items I want to import from Amazon?
The Amazon importer will import all your active items, but it is pretty easy to remove items en masse from your Bonanza booth after they've been imported.
Does the Amazon importer bring my pictures to Bonanza?
Amazon will only provide data for the main image on each listing. Alternate images will not be imported to Bonanza.
How long will it take for my items to import?
Once your job is "In Progress," the time it will take to finish importing depends on the number of items in your Amazon store and in the import queue. It can range from a couple minutes if you have 10-20 items, to several hours if you have thousands. You do not need to stay logged into your account during the import; the import will run whether you're logged into Bonanza or not.
Amazon limits the amount of times per day we can call to their API. When that limit is reached, all remaining Amazon imports are canceled. The automatic sync will re-try again at a later time. You can also cancel your current automatic sync and then click the Import items button to initiate a new import. We recommend trying at a different time of day.
Does it cost anything for me to import my Amazon items?
Nope, nada. You will only be charged final value fees on Bonanza, and only then if you sell your items here.
Is there a maximum number of listings that can be imported?
The importer can copy a maximum of 50,000 items at one time. The maximum number of listings allowed in a booth is 75,000. Titan Pro and High Volume members can list up to 100,000 items.
My items have completed importing and a bunch of them need to be edited. Any tips?
Yes! Use our batch editor (Selling > Batch edit items) to change the price, category, shipping, description or any number of other fields en masse. Please note that if you are editing multiple listings at once (more than 50), it may take several minutes for your request to fully process.
Does the importer remove items if they're no longer available on Amazon?
If the automatic sync is turned on and you have selected the option to "Decrease quantity of items on Amazon when they sell on Bonanza," we will remove merchant-fulfilled items from your Amazon account as they sell on Bonanza (where Amazon policy permits). Please note that Fulfillment by Amazon listings cannot be decremented when they sell on Bonanza. If you import FBA listings, you are responsible for managing the inventory changes for those listings on Amazon.
How can I cancel my current automatic sync or revise my settings?
Once you've initiated a sync, you can cancel your automatic synchronization to stop future imports or edit your import/sync settings. Visit your "Selling > Import from Amazon" page and scroll to the Amazon Sync Info section. Click the link to "Cancel automatic inventory synchronizing" to turn off the sync. If the green "Import items" button is showing, that means the automatic sync is currently turned off.
